Emiliana and Kerala Crafts, India
March 7, 2013
I have co-created, and donated, a limited edition knicker design to be produced by a fair-trade women’s cooperative in India for the wonderful Kerala Crafts, a UK based charity supporting marginalised women in Kerala. Their founder, Christine, came to visit me yesterday and we had a great time. Christine filmed me sewing a pair of the knickers so that the women who work in the cooperative can have a better idea of how they are made. The knickers looked beautiful! We have chosen an amazing sage green bamboo jersey and lovely khaki coloured upcycled lace, with a deep purple bow. They are green and purple to celebrate 15years of Kudumbashree, which is Kerala’s own poverty eradication programme for women. Keep an eye on their website, as hopefully the knickers will be available to buy soon for around 10GBP per pair.
All profits from Kerala Crafts sales are ploughed back to India to help provide financial support not only for their many community projects, but also for the expanding work of a nearby girls’ orphanage, also run by the centre.
