First Steps Book Cover - whole

You may have noticed that this blog has been rather neglected this past year. Well, I am happy to inform you that it was for a very good reason – I was writing my first book! The book, First Steps to Seeing: A Path Towards Living Attentively, is being published by Floris Books and will be on sale on the 18th June. This is very exciting for me! And I very much hope that you will all enjoy it.

The book itself is a down-to-earth expression of my idea that genuine sustainability starts from within; and, more specifically, that if we wish to achieve collective ‘sustainability’ we must look to the ways in which we think about, see and pay attention to the world around us as individuals.

First Steps to Seeing is a great way to learn about the ways in which our brains automatically shape and define our human experience; and it gives us examples of how to bypass our ‘habits of mind’ so that we can get closer to noticing, experiencing, and enjoying, what is actually happening in the present moment. In this sense, the ideas within the book are very close to those of mindfulness. However, within this book, the root of the ideas come mostly from western philosophy and western science.

As Simon Robinson co-author of Holonomics: Business Where People and Planet Matter, and editor of Transition Consciousness writes:

‘By offering many practical exercises and personal experiences, Emma helps us to discover the missed dimension of cognition in perception, opening up a new window on the world. First Steps to Seeing is a deeply insightful guide for anyone wishing to fully experience a more meaningful life, and engage more authentically with people, our organisations and the environment.’

If you would like to learn more about the book, feel free to follow my other blog – http://www.sensinglife.net – where I will share further news and content as book gets released into the world!
